Lessons in the Guitar Teacher Bushey studio are delivered personally by Guitar Teacher Bushey Director, Peter Elliot. Peter has over 10 years’ teaching experience and has helped hundreds of students reach their goals; whether that be classical grade 8 or learning “Happy Birthday” for their sister’s birthday party.

Outstanding resources

Long gone are the days of hand-written sheets of music, thrown into guitar cases and lost at your peril. Over the years, we’ve decided to go high tech.

Students are still given paper copies of their music – but this is augmented with support from a range of multimedia resources. This may include audio so that students can hear their parts, handouts explaining the topic or video tutorials. If you’d like to find out more, take a look at our resources here.

Our studio in Bushey Heath is also equipped with top of the range equipment to provide an unparalleled experience.

We are proud to have invested into our studio and equipment and to offer what we believe to be the best facilities in the local area. This includes:

Excellent exam results

Over the years, we have entered students for electric guitar, acoustic guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar and ukulele exams across the main four different examining boards; RSL, RGT, ABRSM and Trinity.

We are extremely proud of our 100% pass rate with the majority of students achieving a merit or distinction.

With UCAS points available from grade 6 onwards, these exams help students get into their desired university as well as their desired school and also provide structure and a clear target.

Nonetheless, we are far from an “exam factory” and strongly believe it is in the students’ long term interest to focus on non-grade material too; whether this be extra theory, sight reading, accompanying or any other aspect of music that, whilst vital to learners’ on-going musicality, may not be covered in the grade itself. This ensures the learning experience is well rounded and enjoyable.

First and foremost, we aim to create musicians. We believe this is the secret to our exam success!

Regular feedback

Having taught in schools for years, we know how difficult it can be to get in touch with the teacher and discuss your child’s progress – especially when reports are only sent home annually.

At Guitar Teacher Bushey, as well as an annual report, an email is sent to parents after each lesson to ensure that there is constant communication and a clear understanding of what has been covered in the lesson and what should be practised during the week. Specific instruction is given to each student where necessary so that s/he knows exactly what to practise. Clear direction yields focused practice and fast results.

Any issues are flagged up early so that students do not fall behind in their learning. Similarly, we take pride in highlighting good progress and students’ achievements. Who knows, maybe you or your child will be named next year’s “Guitar Teacher Bushey Student of the Year”!

We think music lessons should be good value for money

Guitar Teacher Bushey specialises in small group guitar classes from only £22 per lesson. We’ve found group lessons to offer exceptional value to parents and a fun learning environment for the student. That is why group lessons are highly recommended as the best overall solution for any beginner. However, we also offer traditional one-to-one lessons and home tuition which are more appropriate for some students. We never compromise on quality and keep rates as low as we can whilst maintaining an unrivalled service for our students.

Performance opportunities & workshops

Musicians need to perform, right? That’s why we put on a big student recital at the end of the year so that the students can show friends and family all the cool stuff they’ve been learning, as well as to have the chance to try something new or collaborate with other musicians. We also invite parents to come into lessons to see what students perform in a more intimate setting once or twice a year. A highlight is Christmas jumper day where we all play Christmas songs in a festive environment.  We also run workshops so that learns have the opportunity to try something a little different. This may include a crash course in singing, an introduction to African percussion and many more fun and engaging activities.

We don’t just ‘speak’ music

We understand that most parents are not trained musicians. As such, we use non-technical language where appropriate and define and explain any jargon we do use so that students are clear in their objectives and parents can play a supportive and active role in their child’s musical education.

With our structured lessons and explanations, hopefully it won’t take long for you and your child to be fluent in the language of music and of course, if they are stuck, we are only an email away.

We care

There are so many reasons to start playing the guitar. It’s cool! It sounds great. It creates opportunities to meet new people and experience the joy and exhilaration of performance. It’s also a wonderful relaxation tool and an effective way to ease the stresses of busy modern life. Whatever the reason, we relish the opportunity to help our students explore the world of music and develop as musicians and people.
