How we pick our instrumental tutors
We know that lessons are only as good as the tutors who deliver them.
Because of this, every tutor who joins Guitar Teacher Bushey goes through a rigorous selection process. Fewer than 5% of applicants are accepted onto our teaching team.
When families look for a tutor directly, it can be difficult to know whether someone has the musical knowledge, teaching ability and safeguarding standards needed to work well with children. As most parents are not musicians themselves, this can be hard to judge.
Our role is to take care of that process for you. We carefully check each tutor’s musicianship and teaching approach, complete all safeguarding checks, and support tutors with a structured approach to lessons and student progress.
Our lesson fees are therefore slightly higher than working directly with a tutor, but many families feel the additional support and oversight provides valuable peace of mind.
A trusted team of tutors, thoughtfully matched to each student’s goals, tastes and budget
All tutors working with Guitar Teacher Bushey meet the same core safeguarding and professional standards.
Every tutor has:
• Enhanced DBS, registered to the update service
• Relevant child safeguarding training
• Public liability insurance
• The right to work in the UK
All tutors are also successful applicants from our rigorous selection process, which includes:
• An extended questionnaire on their experience and teaching approach
• A long-form interview
• An audition of at least two contrasting pieces for each instrument they teach with us
• A lesson observation

The main difference between tutors is their level of experience and track record with us. Our tier system allows families to choose an option that suits different budgets, experience levels and learning styles, while maintaining the same safeguarding and quality standards across the team.
Student Tutors
Student Tutors are strong musicians who are at the beginning of their teaching careers.
They are an excellent option for learners who prioritise affordability, want to learn more casually, or enjoy working with a younger tutor who is closer to their stage of learning.
All Student Tutors have passed the same safeguarding checks and interview process as every tutor on our team, including audition and lesson observation.
Pro Tutor
Pro Tutors are typically fully qualified professional musicians with teaching experience, but who are newer members of our team.
We only hire Pro Tutors who we believe will be excellent teachers. However, as they do not yet have an extended track record with us, lessons with Pro Tutors are slightly cheaper than with our more established Trusted Tutors.
Trusted Tutor
Trusted Tutors form the core of our teaching team.
These tutors usually have a strong performing and or teaching background and have typically been working with us for at least 12 months. During this time they have demonstrated strong communication, reliability and consistently positive student feedback.
At this stage we also have a clearer understanding of the types of students they work best with, allowing us to match students and tutors with greater confidence.
Super Tutor
Super Tutors have been working with Guitar Teacher Bushey for at least three years and have demonstrated exceptional musicianship and teaching success.
They show consistently high standards of communication, reliability and professionalism, and have developed strong relationships with the majority of their students.
For families who prioritise the highest standard of experience, Super Tutors represent the very best of our teaching team, combining reliability, professionalism and a proven ability to help students achieve their goals.
