Home Tuition

Which instruments do you teach?

We offer tuition for:

  • acoustic guitar
  • electric guitar
  • classical guitar
  • bass guitar
  • ukulele
  • piano

Which areas do your tutors cover?

We are a small company. But that’s good! We have a close relationship with all our tutors and students and can really focus on offering exceptional service and a unique experience. Here’s to staying small! However, this does unfortunately mean that we only offer lessons in the local area. As a rough guide, we offer lessons in students’ homes between Watford and Mill Hill and Elstree and Northwood.

Areas include Abbots Langley, Aldenham, Barnet, Borehamwood, Bricket Wood, Bushey Heath, Bushey Village, North Bushey, Croxley Green, Elstree, Edgware, Harrow & Wealdstone, North Harrow, Mill Hill, Moor Park, Northwood, Pinner, Radlett, Rickmansworth, Ruislip, Stanmore & Watford.

Some of our areas are also able to teach in other areas so please get in touch for availability if you’re just outside of these areas.

Of course, online lessons may be taken anywhere in the world as long as you have a good internet connection.

How we pick our instrumental tutors

We know that the lessons are only as good as the tutors who deliver them. Because of this, our tutors undergo a rigorous application process where less than 5% our accepted into our team. Our rates are a little higher than our competitors but we feel it is worth the investment to know that your child has the benefit of an experienced, patient and reliable music teacher.

All our tutors have:

  • a degree in music
  • enhanced DBS check
  • at least two years of teaching experience

To ensure we always offer excellent service, Guitar Teacher Bushey director Peter Elliot personally:

  • meets the tutors
  • carries out an audition on their instrument(s)
  • discusses their teaching style and experience
  • undertakes a lesson observation

The benefits of going with us

  • You don’t pay us anything extra for organising the classes but instead our tutors pay us a small commission each month at an average of £3 per lesson. This is roughly 25% of our competitors’ fees (£10-20 per lesson is the industry standard) and is the least we’re able to charge to cover administrative, website and advertising costs and off-setting our annual student concerts. In this way, both our tutors and students receive a greatly enhanced service for a small additional fee. It is important to us that our rates are fair and transparent and that the tutors are paid fairly in line with the Musicians’ Union recommendations.
  • We have a large pool of guitar and piano tutors so can quickly select a tutor who is suitable, local and available at a time and day that suits your schedule.
  • If the tutor is no longer able to continue delivering the lessons or is not a good fit for you or your child, we are normally able to match you up with another tutor, pending availability
  • Our tutors are able to access our resources to help students get the most out of each lesson
  • Our director Peter is on hand to advise students and tutors if they have any questions. With over 16 years of teaching experience and having taught hundreds of students, Peter is able to add value to the lessons and has in depth knowledge of all the main examining bodies
  • You will be part of the Guitar Teacher Bushey community. This means that, just like students who take lessons in our studio in Bushey, you can take advantage of the performance opportunities and workshops that we have to offer too. This includes our annual concerts and our very popular 11 Plus Music Aptitude Test workshop which is offered to our students at a reduced rate

How do we get started with home tuition?

2. Once we have your completed form (which includes your availability) we’ll get in touch with our team, select the tutor who is the best fit for you and confirm lesson timings

3. We’ll then get back to you to confirm and organise payment for the first three lessons. Only the first of this set of three lessons is non-refundable if you are unhappy for any reason providing at least 48 hours notice is given before the second lesson. The first three lessons are priced at:

Peak Times
Monday – Friday from 3pm onwards or any time on weekends

Off-Peak Times
Monday – Friday from 10am – 3pm

30-minutes

  • £150 for 3 x 60-minute lessons; £50 per lesson (off-peak)

4. Once payment has been received, we’ll send an email to confirm and copy in both yourself and the tutor, giving you both each other’s contact details so that you may touch base ahead of the first lesson, confirm the start date and clarify any questions you may have. We’ll also send you:

  • a photo of the tutor
  • the tutor’s photo ID
  • a copy of the tutor’s DBS certificate

5. After the first set of three lessons, if you’d like to continue, you may then pay the tutor directly in advance in sets of 5 lessons:

Home Tuition Reviews

Helena, parent

We went to Peter back in November. Our daughter had an initial lesson with him then due to my long hours at work, we decided to have private tuition at home from one of the tutors. Anthony has been her teacher since then and she is doing really well; she is playing songs confidentially now. We won’t be stopping anytime soon! Fabulous company which I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Luisa, acoustic guitar student

I had lessons with one of [Guitar Teacher Bushey’s] teachers, Mark. Mark was always on time and actually listened to what I wanted to do, and rolled with it I really enjoyed my lessons, and I picked up everything I had forgotten, fast!
